WELCOME

SD42 INTERDISCIPLINARY ARTS ACADEMY 2025/2026

IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE OUR NEXT SHOW:

NOVEMBER - DECEMBER 2026

The Interdisciplinary Arts Academy is dedicated to providing students with hands-on, immersive learning through the production of theatrical performances. Both cast and crew gain a wide range of competencies from interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, to project management, time management, and creative thinking. They walk away with the confidence of having achieved a monumental goal: putting on a full-scale Broadway Musical.

We would like to celebrate the addition of a student-led production slot in the spring, where students can put to the test everything they have learned!

About the Director/Producer:

Before joining the staff at Garibaldi Secondary, Ms. Miller received her BFA from UVic and returned to the Kootenays to work in a local musical theatre company. After completing the season with them, she had the opportunity to start theatre and film classes for the new independent school in town.
She enjoyed the work in the film class very much and when the opportunity to move back to the coast to work in the film industry came up, she took it. Over the next few years, Ms. Miller worked on many sets and production offices in commercials, television, and film. While she had a lot of fun, met a bunch of really cool people, and learned a lot, the work hours weren’t conducive to the life style she wanted to live.
Inspired by her time spent teaching in the independent school, she went back to school to get her BEd, in Theatre and IB, from UBC. Upon graduation, she accepted the job at Garibaldi, where she has worked since 2019. Since then, Ms. Miller has furthered her training by completing the Advanced Arts and Entertainment Management program at Capilano University and a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Certificate from Cornell University.
Ms. Miller looks forward to working with current and future students, from all schools across the district, for the Interdisciplinary Arts Academy. So come on out and check out the program!
