WWI Podcast and show notes due Tuesday May 2!

How to create and share your WWI podcast

There are tons of different ways to record your podcast and make the file available for listeners. These are just suggestions. If you already know of a better way to do this yourself, go ahead.

Just be sure that you are able to record your podcast and edit the pieces together. When it is ready, upload it to your Google Drive account, and then click the share link to share it to mrgodfreygaribaldi@gmail.com .

Apple users:

Opinion Podcast is available for free download on the App Store. Ms. Morrow used this app and found it to be good. It allows for free recordings up to 10 minutes, as well as editing. It creates an mp4 file that can be directly uploaded to the internet.

The standard iPhone Voice Memo app will work too, but will not allow editing.

Android users:

RecForgeII is available for free download from the Google Play store. Mr. Godfrey is used this app to record. It allows free unlimited length recordings and can be used for editing. It is not great for editing though, so I used another free app called Audio Mp3 Editor to trim and merge the different pieces together (super easy!).

The standard Android Voice Memo app will work too, but will not allow editing.

Recording tips:

  • Speak slowly and clearly.
  • Use short pauses for effect.
  • Vary the tone of your voice when speaking.
  • Instead of trying to record the whole podcast in one take, break it up into chunks that can later be edited together. This is super easy and means that if you make a mistake you don't need to start from the beginning.
  • Record in a quiet room with no distractions. Turn off all phone notifications or enable your phone’s “Do not disturb” mode.
  • When recording place the phone down on a hard surface close to your mouth. The sound quality will not be as good if you are holding the phone.
  • Use a good quality microphone, if you have one.
  • Most people will find it easier to record from a script. This will avoid “ums”, “ers” etc.
  • Do multiple trial runs (“takes”). Listen to them and make adjustments.
  • Ask questions. We are happy to help!
